Make this easy homemade chicken taco seasoning using the spices you have in your pantry. This recipe is the best! Use taco seasoning to make chicken tacos, quesadillas, burritos, taquitos, nachos, and fajitas.

Whether you've run out of the store bought packages or want to control the flavor of your seasonings, knowing how to make homemade seasoning blends is one of the easiest ways to save time and money when you're putting together meals.

We make chicken tacos at least once a month, so I make a double or triple batch of this chicken taco seasoning and store it in the pantry until we're ready for another taco dinner. It's full of flavor and is now my go-to taco seasoning. For beef tacos, we use this beef taco seasoning, which is slightly different but equally as delicious! Try our Philly cheesesteak seasoning next and our enchilada seasoning, you won't regret it!

Ingredients

I make my chicken taco seasoning with:

  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tsp Spanish paprika
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, if you like your tacos with a little heat)

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Mix the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano and red pepper flakes together in a small bowl.
  2. Store in a tightly sealed mason jar until ready to use.
  3. When ready to use, toss 2 pounds of diced chicken with all of the taco seasoning. Cook chicken using desired method (stovetop, slow cooker, pressure cooker) and use to make tacos, taco bowls, quesadillas, etc.

*Use 3 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning per 1 pound of chicken.

How To Store Homemade Spice Blends

Store homemade spices in airtight containers in a cabinet or pantry away from heat, light, and moisture to keep them fresh. Many seasonings will last for years when stored properly.

More Ways To Use Taco Seasoning

  • To make chicken taco soup
  • In chilaquiles rojos (a delicious Mexican breakfast!)
  • As the seasoning for Mexican-inspired shredded beef.
  • To make fried tacos.
  • The seasoning for Mexican stuffed peppers.

My go-to taco seasoning on chicken taco night! We always have a jar of this in the pantry ready to go, and if not it's made with the spices we usually have. Even if you don't have everything, you can modify it and it will turn out great.
