Making Mummy Hot Dogs every Halloween for my girls has become one of my favorite holiday to-dos. Not only are hot dogs wrapped in buttery crescent rolls absolutely delicious, they make a cute and spooky meal for Halloween parties & family dinners. We usually make these and take them out in the wagon while trick or treating, and everyone eats when they're hungry!
I also make mummy hot dogs in mini form for my girls' classroom Halloween parties. The kids love them! They only take a few minutes to wrap in the dough and a few more minutes to cook. You need only 3 ingredients, or 4 if you're making cheesy mummy hot dogs. This simple dinner will have everyone craving a second helping!

It's super easy to make them in your oven or air fryer- you'll have a winning Halloween party dish in no time at all. And one that everyone will love. Every year as it gets closer to Halloween my kids want to know, are you making the mummies!? And friends want to know, can you bring those delicious mummy dogs to the Halloween party?
The answer is an obvious yes. And then our dinner is followed by graveyard pudding cups and graveyard smash brownies for dessert! We also make zombie cupcakes, candy corn cupcakes and dark unicorn cupcakes for classroom treats and fall fest potlucks. Witches brew stew is another fun Halloween dinner idea that's made in the slow cooker so it's effortless.
Ingredients
You need:
- Hot dogs: use your favorite. I love Nathan's!
- Crescent dough: Pillsbury crescent rolls are what I usually use.
- Cheddar cheese (optional): yellow or white cheddar will work.
- Melted butter
- Ketchup and mustard for serving.

How To Make Mummy Hot Dogs
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If using an air fryer, you can wait until you're done wrapping the mummies to preheat it. (if you love hot dogs, check out how to make them in your air fryer!)
- On a baking sheet, roll out each crescent dough triangle. Use a pizza cutter to make thin cuts on one side as in the picture below. If adding cheese, put a slice on the short side, where the hot dog will be placed.
- Put the hot dog on top of the cheese. Wrap the thin cuts of dough around the hot dog in a zig-zag fashion. There is no right way to wrap the hot dog, but make sure to leave a gap for the mummy's face.
- Brush with the melted butter and bake for between 10 and 15 minutes. This depends on the crescent dough brand you're using and your oven. Check on them at around 10 minutes and cook until golden brown. If air frying, you will likely need to shorten the cooking time by a few minutes, depending on your air fryer.
Serve with ketchup and mustard for dipping. Or, make eyes using either condiment. Enjoy!

Storing
Store in the fridge until ready to serve. They are delicious at room temperature. So if making them for a party, there is no need to worry if they sit out for a few hours. They are also freezer-friendly for up to 6 months.
How To Make Mummy Hot Dogs Ahead Of Time
Make them the day or 2 before and keep in the fridge. Warm in the microwave for about 30 seconds when ready to serve. If you want to make them a few weeks ahead of time, store them in the freezer and defrost overnight in the fridge before cooking. If you want to make it easier and cook them from frozen, that works too. Just give them a few more minutes of cooking time.
Variations
- Instead of crescent dough, use pizza dough or puff pastry dough.
- Use American cheese, Swiss cheese, or your favorite sliced deli cheese.
- Don't love hot dogs? Try Italian sausage or chicken sausage instead.
- Making mini hot dog mummies. Create a mummy family!
- Add eyes using mustard or ketchup for even cuter and spookier hot dogs.
