This healthy & simple Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli recipe is a one pot dinner that's ready in less than 30 minutes. While incredibly flavorful, it uses simple ingredients, so skip the take-out and make this family-friendly recipe that everyone will love!
This Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli recipe is a pressure cooked take on beef stir fry. It's flavors are full of Asian flare thanks to Chinese five spice seasoning, peanut oil and ramen noodles. A sweet and savory sauce coats chewy ramen, crunchy broccoli and tender beef and each bite ends with a pinch of heat from a blend of red pepper flakes, white pepper and black pepper.
What's more, Instant Pot beef and broccoli is a one-pot dinner made quickly, in just under 30 minutes. This includes time needed to prepare the ingredients, bring the pot to pressure and pressure cook it all together- pressure cooking time is just one minute!
You can also make beef and broccoli in your slow cooker if that's more your thing, and then serve it over pressure cooker white rice, basmati rice, farro or even barley. More Asian-inspired Instant Pot recipes that you should try are this one-pot chicken lo mein, peppery wonton soup and fried rice. And of course, my favorite slow cooker pepper steak!
Ingredients
This Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli recipe using 8 pretty simple ingredients. You probably have most in your pantry or fridge already. You'll need:
- Ramen noodles: I buy the 3 ounce packages of ramen and discard the seasoning packets but any brand of dry ramen noodles works too. Lo mein noodles also work.
- Beef strips: if you can find "beef strips for stir fry" this is the quickest as they are already cut. But a beef chuck roast, sirloin steak, or other tender cuts of beef can be cut into thin slices instead.
- Broccoli: a fresh head of broccoli works best for this recipe rather than frozen broccoli. It should be cut into 1-2 inch florets.
- Sauce ingredients: beef broth, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
- Spices: Chinese 5 spice, red pepper flakes, white pepper, black pepper and salt.
- Sesame oil
- Garlic cloves
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli is made in 5 easy steps:
- Set the Instant Pot to saute on high for 5 minutes. Add 3 tablespoon sesame oil and 1 pound beef strips. Cook, stirring frequently until beef is browned.
- Turn off saute and add 3 cups beef broth. Deglaze the pot to remove stuck bits of beef from the bottom. Layer 9 ounces of dry ramen noodles evenly over the beef.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together โ cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoon brown sugar, 8 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice, 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, ยผ teaspoon salt, โ teaspoon white pepper and โ teaspoon black pepper. Pour the sauce over the beef and noodles.
- Place 1 pound of fresh broccoli florets on top of the noodles. Close and seal the pressure cooker lid. Set to pressure cook or manual on high for 1 minute.
- Quickly release the pressure when done. Open the lid, toss well and sprinkle with desired amount of sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- For a thick sauce, add a cornstarch slurry to the sauce once pressure cooking is done.
- For a spicy version, add a few drops of sriracha or hot sauce to individual bowls (or the entire meal).
- Since soy sauce and beef broth can be on the salty side, you can skip the addition of salt to the sauce, or wait until the meal is done to taste and add it if you find it's necessary.
- Make it with spaghetti noodles if you don't have ramen, but increase the pressure cooking time to 3 minutes. Take note that pressure cooking the broccoli florets for 3 minutes will make them very soft though.
Frequently Asked Questions
While fresh broccoli is the best, frozen broccoli can be used. However, it will add some water to the sauce as it pressure cooks and will be very, very soft.
Yes. Frozen beef will work just the same as thawed beef without altering the recipe instructions.
This recipe works in a 6, 8 or 10 quart pressure cooker.
How To Store
Beef and broccoli with noodles will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container. If you'd like to freeze the meal, it's best to only freeze the broccoli and beef. Noodles will become mushy when defrosted. Then make fresh noodles or rice when you're ready to use it.
