Air Frying Frozen Onion Rings is such a quick and easy way to cook onion rings to a crispy perfection. They make a delicious snack, appetizer or side dish along with a burger or hot dog. You can have frozen onion rings air fried and ready to eat in less than 10 minutes.
While we love making homemade air fried onion rings in a flavorful batter and seasonings, being able to throw a bag of frozen onion rings is easier when the kids are hungry now or we don't have much time. When we have a bunch of time or a party, we also make bloomin' onion petals in our air fryer- they're so good!
Using our air fryer to cook frozen foods is so simple and the method we use most to get that crispy texture. Chicken nuggets, frozen french fries, juicy hot dogs, corn dogs, pot stickers and taquitos are some that we always have stocked in the freezer ready to air fry!

Why You'll Love Air Frying Frozen Onion Rings
- It takes less than 10 minutes to make onion rings crispy when they're air fried.
- They turn out perfectly golden brown and crisp without the need for deep frying in all that oil - so no messy stove!

You need 2 ingredients:
- Bag of frozen onion rings: Nathan's onion rings are our favorite brand, but we love Alexia onion rings too.
- Cooking oil spray, so they don't stick.
How To Cook Frozen Onion Rings In An Air Fryer
Just 3 simple steps is what it takes to cook onion rings in the air fryer.
- Preheat the air fryer to 380℉/194℃. If your air fryer does not require preheating, skip this step.
- Brush the air fryer basket or tray with a small amount of oil. Working in batches, place the frozen onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer with space between so they do not touch.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, until onion rings are golden brown and the internal temperature has reached 165℉.
Using tongs, remove the cooked onion rings from the air fryer. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such ketchup, pizza sauce, marinara sauce or mayonnaise.

Kristina's Tips
Season the onion rings: give them a little extra kick by sprinkling on some french fry seasoning or salt, pepper garlic seasoning.
Don't overcrowd the basket: frozen onion rings should be air fried in a single layer for the best outcome. Overlapping cause them to cook unevenly and the touching pieces of breading won't turn as crispy as you might like.
How To Store Leftovers
Leftover onion rings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. They can be reheated in the air fryer. Once cooked, they should not be refrozen.
How To Reheat
If your air fryer has the reheat setting, set it to reheat for 3-5 minutes. If your air fryer does not have the reheat setting, set the temperature to 260 degrees Fahrenheit and reheat for 3-5 minutes.
Do I Need To Flip The Onion Rings?
If you're air frying the onion rings on a basket tray with holes or a shelf, there is no need to flip them. The air will flow strongly and evenly around them. But if you're air frying the onion rings on solid pan or tray, you will need to flip them for them to crisp evenly on all sides.
