Waffle Pops are a fun breakfast, brunch, or dessert idea that kids love to help make and of course, eat! Warm waffles are coated in melted candy and sprinkles, then dusted with a layer of sweet powdered sugar to make the ultimate snacking pop.
You can make waffle pops 4 ways: using small leftover waffles, frozen waffles, a homemade waffle mix or box of waffle mix. You can also break large Belgian waffles into pieces and use those!
You can use any waffle mix or pancake mix to make waffles. Try our protein waffle recipe, oat milk pancake, almond milk pancake or cottage cheese waffle recipe. You can make chocolate waffles, too.
This recipe is great to serve at Mother's Day and Easter brunches, baby showers and kids' spring birthday parties, or as a sweet breakfast any time- like Nutella stuffed crescent rolls and cream cheese danishes.

Can I Use Melted Chocolate Instead Of Candy Melts?
Instead of candy melts you can use melted white, milk or dark chocolate. I do this for many of my recipes, like chocolate-covered pretzels and homemade chocolate candies.
Can I Make Them Ahead Of Time?
Yes! Waffle pops can be made ahead of time which makes them especailly convenient for holidays, parties and busy mornings. Cook and cool the pops completely, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Kristina's Tips
- If your candy melts become too thick, stir in a small amount of vegetable shortening or use a candy-thinning product.
- Powdered sugar looks best added right before serving to avoid disappearing into the candy coating.
- Warm waffles can help the skewers adhere better, but room-temperature waffles work fine too.
What Sticks Can I Use?
6-inch lollipop sticks or cake pop sticks work best. They're sturdy enough to hold the waffle without bending and they provide plenty of room for little hands to grip. Paper lolipop sticks are a good choice for serving while wooden cake pop sticks also work well. Avoid very thin sticks, which can break or slide out of the waffle.
How To Keep Waffle Pops From Falling Off The Stick
The key to keeping waffle pops securely on the stick is to insert the stick while the waffle is still warm. Gently push the stick into the bottom of the waffle, making sure it reaches well into the center without coming through the other side. Avoid making the waffles too thin, as thicker waffles hold the sticks better. Let the waffle pops cool completely before dipping or decorating them so they have time to frm up around the stick.
How To Make Waffle Pops
- Prepare the waffles of your choice. If using homemade waffles or a waffle mix, use a mini waffle maker and your batter to make 6-12 waffles. Frozen waffles do not need to be thawed before warming in the oven.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the waffles on a baking sheet and warm them for about 3-5 minutes in the oven. This step softens the waffles slightly but is not required if you prefer them at room temperature.
- Remove the waffles from the oven, allowing them to cool just enough so you can handle them safely. Insert a skewer or popsicle stick into each waffle.
- Place the white, chocolate, and pink candy melts in separate microwave-safe bowls. Microwave them in 15- to 20-second bursts, stirring thoroughly in between, until smooth and fully melted. *Double Boiler Option: Put the candy melts in heat-safe bowls set over a pot of gently simmering water. Stir until melted.
- Dip each waffle pop into one color of melted candy, turning it to coat as much as you like. Let excess drip off. If desired, wait a moment for the first color to set slightly, then drizzle a second color on top using a spoon or piping bag.
- While the candy coating is still tacky, sprinkle on your choice of toppings (sprinkles, nonpareils, or a dusting of powdered sugar)
- Let set on a parchment lined baking sheet before serving. Enjoy!

Best Toppings and Dipping Sauces
Toppings that stick well to the melted candy, like:
- Sprinkles
- Crushed nuts
- Dried fruit pieces
- Shredded coconut flakes
- Powdered sugar
- Small ice cream topping-like foods, like mini chocolate chips
- Crushed candies and cookies, like Oreo pieces and butterfingers
- Melted caramel sauce
- Melted chocolate
- Marshmallow fluff
How To Store
- For any leftovers, store the fully set waffle pops in an airtight container at room temperature.
- If you used perishable toppings, store in the fridge and eat within 1-2 days.
Can I Freeze Waffle Pops?
Yes! They can be frozen in freezer safe storage containers for up to 6 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight or at room temperature, a few hours before serving.
