Skip the store-bought buns and make your own soft, fluffy homemade hamburger buns in your own kitchen. These Bread Machine Hamburger Buns are easy to prepare, light and soft, and sturdy enough to hold a burger with all your favorite toppings.
Add the warm water, bread flour, sugar, salt, melted butter, egg and yeast to the bread machine pan in the order your brand of machine recommends. Set to the dough cycle and let the machine do the work. Check to ensure the dough is soft and tacky while it's kneading and add more water or flour in small increments if needed.
Once the cycle completes, remove the dough and flatten it into a rectangle on a lightly oiled surface. Divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll the dough pieces into smooth balls and set ½ inches apart on a a lightly oiled baking sheet. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, until doubled in size.
Remove the plastic wrap. Stir 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of milk to make the egg wash. Gently brush the dough balls with the egg wash, being careful not to deflate them. Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
Transfer to an oven preheated to 375℉. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden brown and the internal temperature reaches about 190℉.
Remove the hamburger buns from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before setting on a cooling rack.
